Owner Vodie Brooks began learning the upholstery trade in 1980 while living in Amarillo, Texas. After completing formal training in the profession, an opportunity came along that would prove invaluable to his career. A local upholstery shop owner generously allowed Vodie to spend time in his shop, learning firsthand the many different aspects of the trade. That hands-on experience helped him develop a wide range of skills and eventually led to opportunities beyond traditional furniture upholstery—including aircraft upholstery projects, which complemented his work as an aircraft mechanic at the time.
In 1989, Vodie moved his family to Port Arthur, Texas. After spending two years working in other fields, he decided it was time to pursue his passion and open his own upholstery shop. His reputation and growing experience led to contracting work with interior designers throughout the Beaumont and Port Arthur area. He also developed close working relationships with local furniture refinishing companies, assisting with upholstery work on their projects.
In 2000, Vodie and his family moved to Victoria to be closer to family. Not long afterward, he was hired by a local furniture company to oversee its furniture repair department. This position gave him another valuable opportunity to expand his knowledge, particularly in furniture repair and refinishing.
Then, in 2006, Vodie took the next step and opened Silver Threads Upholstery in Victoria, Texas.
After more than 40 years in the trade, Vodie continues to take pride in doing things the right way—combining time-tested craftsmanship, attention to detail, and quality materials to give each piece the care it deserves.
From furniture upholstery and repair to refinishing and restoration, every project benefits from decades of hands-on experience. For Vodie, upholstery isn't simply a job--it's a craft he has dedicated his life to mastering.
